Beyond the Ropes takes the technique out of rope, so the rope stops being something you have to be good at and becomes an instrument of attention. NO ROPE EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED, and you will not be tying anyone. If you are a bodyworker, a massage or energy practitioner, or you work with touch in any form and have never thought a rope class was for you — this is the one that is. We work in ROTATING PAIRS. You will be partnered with several different people across the afternoon, and the role rotates too: you give in one exercise, receive in another, assist in a third. If you are arriving with someone and want to stay together, tell us and we will arrange it — but the default is rotation, and solo attendees are folded in by design rather than left to pair off at the door. THE AFTERNOON. You arrive to a simple repetitive rope meditation, hands busy before anyone has to talk. Then an opening circle: introductions, agreements, how we ask and how we decline, and injury disclosure — which matters here, because of the stretching later. Then we teach you the chain you have already been making. Ether rope is the first partner exercise and it involves no touch at all. You do not have to believe anything for it to work: what we are calling energy here is attention plus sensation, and we borrow the shape of rope to give that attention somewhere to go. Elemental rope is the heart of the day — earth, water, fire and air as four qualities of touch with a short piece of rope. Stillness, then flow, then warmth, then a cool descent. It is a complete cycle rather than four separate techniques. Then rope-assisted partner stretches: passive, static, never forced past resistance, and the person receiving ends it with a word. Open practice follows, and we close in one connected circle — every person's hands in the same chain. WHAT THIS IS. Clothed and comfortable. Lingerie is welcome if that is what feels good, and what someone is wearing is never an invitation. Nonsexual, throughout, including open practice. A sober space, in a private venue. WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING. Something you can move and rest in for four hours, that stays where you want it while someone else is moving your body. Bring a layer you can shed and one for the cool-down. Water. Rope is supplied. Address released after purchase.
